          Welcome to the AHS Choirs website!


The Choral program at Albemarle High School consists of 7 choirs and more than 200 students. Choirs perform three major concerts per year at the school, with additional performances throughout Charlottesville and the surrounding area. Our choirs consistently receive superior ratings at District Assessment and spring festivals. For years, they have been awarded Grand Champion status at festivals along the East Coast, Texas, California, Canada and the Bahamas. Students are selected for District Chorus and the Virginia All-State Chorus. Our choirs have been under the direction of Mrs. Jennifer Morris since 1992. Mr. Ben Griffin has served as accompanist since 2012.

AHS CHOIRS TO PARTICIPATE IN MUSIC FESTIVALS TOUR 2018

Toronto, Canada

April 19-22, 2018

The Albemarle High School choirs are set to participate in this year’s Music Festivals music competition in Toronto, Canada. We will leave by charter bus on the morning of Thursday, April 19th and return in the evening on Sunday, April 22nd. These are school-related absences and do not count against a student.

While in Toronto, students will enjoy activities in addition to the music competition, such as visiting the CN Tower and the Royal Ontario Museum. We will also have dinner at Medieval Times (also the site of the awards ceremony for the competition.) In addition, we will also be visiting Niagara Falls during our trip.

The cost of the trip is $850 per student, payable (based on 4 to a room) in 6 payments.

The cost covers transportation, hotel, the performances, meals, and entertainment. Students will need to bring money for snacks and/or souvenirs.

Deposits may be paid by check (AHS Chorus Boosters) or monies may be fundraised. PLEASE NOTE: Spending money MAY NOT be fundraised.

Parents and students will receive a detailed accounting about a week before each deposit is due. You may also check accounts at any time on ahschoirs.net/studentaccounts.htm. There will also be a parent meeting about the trip app. 3 weeks before we leave.

We need to know how many plan to go. The attached intent form does not commit you to go and/or pay the full amount (note the $100 non-refundable deposit). There will be detailed information on the choir website in the near future with information about forms, payment deadlines, cancellation policies, etc.

Travelling to Canada requires documentation. Anyone who travels with the AHS Choirs on this trip will be required to have a passport. You are encouraged to apply for one sooner rather than later.
